Elegia en cuatro actos arises from meditations on the theme of cancellation, conceived a a process or practice that leads to rebirth, cyclicity and regeneration.
By staging four performances, the artist aims to seek poetic strategies that exorcise the tragic components that characterize this human condition.
All the acts differ in their connection with the four elements of nature, and they all involve the use of old diaries, which are subjected to procedures that alter their form and content. Once they reach the last stage, they become reliquaries, empty shells whose interior has been dissolved and lost.
The final action, Ciò che resta del fuoco, takes inspiration from a book by Jacques Derrida, Feu la cendre.
It is articulated in three phases: in the first the pages of the diary are torn out, in the second they’re given to fire, and in the third appears the incineration.
The performance took place inside the Abbey of San Bruzio, a Romanesque building built around the XI century by Benedectines monks. Although it is in a state of abandonment and much of its original structure has been destroyed, it preserves a sacred atmosphere that adapts perfectly to the spirit of the work.
